“To me, every hour of the day and night
is an unspeakably perfect miracle.”
– Walt Whitman
The clocks went back one hour this weekend in Ireland (as in all members of the European Union) and it’s always fascinating to me how the conversation inevitably ends up at ‘So does that mean I get an hour extra in bed or an hour less?’
But trying to explain it to my kids is where it gets interesting. And regardless of what I say, they just seem to end up at the same point… ‘So it means we can stay up later!’
The concept of an extra hour in your day is an interesting one.
You could add 30 days of higher value time to your year with one hour used in a different way every day.
1 hour x 5 days x 48 weeks = 240 hours
Divide it by an 8 hour day and you get 30 days.
What could you do with an extra 30 days worth of high value time in a year?
Quite a lot I’d imagine!
When you have seemingly endless hours around you, perhaps we don’t value it as much. But when you take an hour on it’s own, over time – it becomes increasingly valuable.
I’ve used this approach myself for key focus areas – it became a powerful strategy to write 2 plays and also my book Inspire Me. I’ve also used it to make important changes in business and life.
You can use it to for anything that’s a top priority for you e.g. strategic thinking, relationship building, learning, health.
Not every hour has the same value.
And maybe the simple approach is to just pick 1 hour a day for the next month, and decide what the most important use of it is…
How will you use yours?
