Learning From The Irish Rugby Coach

Many people say they're fully committed when really they aren't. They hold back out of perhaps fear or from being focused on too many things at the same time. What really matters most to you? Are you fully committed?

“I think the best way to protect yourself

is to be fully committed to the game.”

– Joe Schmidt, Head Coach of Ireland Rugby Men’s Team

This was a short quote given a few days ago by the Irish Coach, before they played against Wales in their final warm up match before the World Cup begins in 2 weeks.

He was responding to a question from a journalist about how the team can avoid injuries before the tournament begins.

The answer he gave was short but powerful in it’s simplicity.

The best way to protect yourself is to be fully committed.

I think this is a truism that applies to any area of business or life as well.

And only we know deep down if we are really, fully committed.

What about your business or team?

What about your role or career?

What about that project?

What about your key relationships?

What about that impossible goal that you keep putting off?

What about your health? (physical and mental)

Schmidt was putting down a marker also for his team of players.

Don’t hold back. Put it all out there. Give it 100% effort.

Many people say they’re fully committed when really they aren’t. They hold back out of perhaps fear or from being focused on too many things at the same time.

What really matters most to you?

Are you fully committed?

Fully…?

And where can you give more?
