“Accept then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it not against it…
This will miraculously transform your whole life.”
– Eckhart Tolle
If you’re a regular reader of my mails, you’ll know that I ruptured my Achilles tendon at the start of June, and required surgery.
As it turned out, I wasn’t able to drive for 2 months and had to change a lot of my plans (business and personal).
Last Friday was a milestone as my medical boot was removed and I’m into the next phase which is physio to build the muscle and tendon back up.
But more importantly I can drive again!
The above quote resonates this week as I reflect on the last 8/9 weeks.
Most of the time I’d like to ‘think’ I live like this but I struggled at times with the Achilles event, and it showed there was plenty more room for growth!
The good days were when I just accepted the way things were and worked with it. I had a clearer mind, was more productive and my state was positive. The bad days were when I resisted the way things were.
And perhaps one of the benefits of this recent adventure has been an increase in being aware of what my mind is saying about ‘where I am’. It seems to always have a comment or ten…
What I’ve become clearer on is realising the link between what my inner voice is saying and my state or mood – in reaction to literally everything.
Accepting reality sounds simple, but the truth is that most are resisting it in many ways, and in that resistance lies the secret to less stress and gaining better clarity of mind.
What about you?
Where are you resisting? (work or life)
What can you do to ‘accept it’ and ‘work with it not against it’?
Best,
Shane
