The above statement is commonly referred to as Occam’s “Razor”.

It’s a principle that cuts away and leaves aside, a host of potentially competing conclusions or arguments, leaving the simplest and most likely conclusion in place. (That’s why it’s called a ‘Razor’.)

As human beings, we’re great at over-complicating and over-justifying things to ourselves.
