“Nothing spoils a good story like the arrival of an eyewitness.”
Mark Twain
I watched the movie ‘Arrival’ recently and was very impressed with it.
The actress Amy Adams steals the show and must surely be a strong Oscar contender for 2017.
The movie managed to do something very rare – deliver a sci-fi story that has real emotional depth
while also raising insightful questions about how we live.
I’m not giving anything away when I say that one of the key questions it raises is…
‘If you knew how your life would turn out, would you live it in the same way?’
I’m not American, so I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving (which happens this week).
But I love what it stands for as a holiday – Being grateful and thankful for what we have.
Reflecting on the live I’ve lived to date, the one piece of advice I’d give a younger me
is to be more grateful. More thankful.
A life spent worrying, looking at what’s wrong or what you don’t have yet, is not life the way it’s meant
to be. And it wastes the one thing we can’t get back – our time.
Easy to say – not so easy to do. But it is possible to get better at it.
And so to my North American friends and clients,
I wish you a Happy ThanksGiving.
Best,
Shane
ps – If you do go to see the movie Arrival, be warned that it does lag in the middle section but it’s
worth the wait for the pay-off at the end.
