“If you want to conquer fear, don’t sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”
– Dale Carnegie
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t experience fear – and obviously some fear is constructive e.g. fear of what happens if I jump off the roof of my house etc. And there’s no doubt in my mind that living in fear is probably the worst state to be in. It can choke off your life.
As the above quote suggests, the cure is not to analyse why the fear is there or indeed to come up with a mental technique to overcome the fear.
No.
No.
We live in a society where it’s not really the ‘done thing’ to talk about your fears. Certainly in business. When the reality is that everyone experiences it to various degrees. The best way to overcome fear it is to start taking action.
Just throw yourself into gear and get moving. As that well known book title says, to ‘Feel the fear and do it anyway’.
If you’re feeling fear in any area, relax… you’re human. Just don’t do what many do and get caught up thinking about it. That’s a cul de sac.
Q: Is there any area where perhaps you feel some fear/concern/anxiety?
Action: Do something today in that area that’s one step forwards.
Repeat daily.
Simple stuff – but you’d be surprised at how fear can sneak up on the best of us. And the cure is perhaps more obvious than we think.
