“In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love.
In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, an invincible smile.
In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm.
I realised, through it all, that…
In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me,
an invincible summer.
And that makes me happy.
For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me,
within me, there’s something stronger
– something better,
pushing right back.”
– Albert Camus
If I went back to when I was 18 and gave myself any advice, it might be a version of the above words.
Essentially I’d be saying to myself:
“Don’t be afraid of what life throws your way. Experience it all fully, don’t be fearful of any of it because there is incredible resilience inside you. You can handle it.”
I used to think everyone else had it all figured out except me. From a young age, I remember being able to see incredible potential inside people and seeing no reason why they couldn’t create the ‘impossible’. But for a long time I never saw it in myself.
Now I 100% know for sure that there IS something within me that’s stronger than any circumstances and that is worth wayyyyy more than anything I materially have in my possession.
Maybe you don’t need to read or hear this today but there is someone around who definitely does. Personally, from working with many many people who you might think have it all sorted…I don’t know anyone who doesn’t need to be reminded that they have an ‘invincible summer’ within them.
Best,
Shane
