“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that.”
– Albus Dumbledore (Character in the Harry Potter books and movies)

The above quote above is from a scene where Dumbledore discovers that Harry has been spending a lot of time in front of the Erised mirror.

The Erised Mirror (‘desire’ spelled backwards) shows the greatest desire of the one looking into it as if it’s been achieved.  Like watching
a movie of your most successful self.

The young wizard was warned that many people had wasted years in front of the mirror because it was so alluring – with many forgetting what
reality was.

If you ever find yourself ever saying this:

“When I get x, then I’ll do y”

where x = your dream or goal and y = living, then maybe it’s worth taking stock.
Examples would include:
– When my business gets to that sales mark, then I’ll take a family holiday
– When I get more time, then I’ll write that book
– When I get more time, then I’ll look after my health
– When I make more money, then I’ll spend time on my relationship
– When I get that promotion, then I’ll spend quality time with my kids
– When I get what I want, then I’ll be happy…

We can all be busy working towards our goals and dreams (which is great) but it would be a real shame to get there and realise we hadn’t fully lived – and maybe missed the real point.
Even young wizards can teach us something. 🙂

Food for thought…
