“Rabbits jump and live for 8 years.

Dogs run and they live for 15 years.

Turtles do nothing and live for for 150 years.

Lesson Learned.”

– Minion Quote

As we come to the end of 2018, it’s a natural time for reflection.

As someone I hugely respect said to me once, “Stop and think about the lessons learned. If you don’t it’s highly likely you’ll repeat the same mistake. That goes for the good times as well as the bad.”

This year lived up to how I see life – an adventure – you just don’t know what’s coming at you.

Plenty of great things happened – long held goals were achieved, new friends were made, new opportunities emerged.

But there were also great challenges and things not going as planned.

As a client of mine once said to me in shock as I explained a property challenge I was having ‘I genuinely thought you had no problems.’

The only people who don’t have problems are in the grave. 🙂

A lesson learned this year for me was around health.

My family and myself had challenges around it this year – thankfully none of it mission critical but still testing none the less.

A lesson learned is that you can still have blind spots even if you’re doing what you think is the right thing. So it’s always worth reviewing key aspects of your health even in the good times.

I’ve had many lessons this year but my biggest lesson learned is one I thought I already knew – and I’ve realised that there are many layers to it.

It’s this:

Life is precious. It’s important to make it count and appreciate more what we have, than what we don’t. That includes your health, your closest relationships, and the fact that you’re alive and reading this. 🙂

So in the spirit of what matters most, I have a final 2018 challenge for you.

With people around you who matter most, how about you give them a hug this year that consciously lasts just a couple of seconds longer than is usual?

We never know what’s around the corner.

And from me to you, even if you’re all macho and alpha…

Here’s my virtual hug to you 😉

Happy Christmas,

Shane
