“To live is the rarest thing in the world.

Most people just exist.”

– Oscar Wilde

“Make it count.”

These powerful words are the closing lines of a stage-play I had the privilege of writing, titled “The Waiting Room.” In 2014, this comedy took centre stage at various theaters across Ireland, brought to life by a talented and professional team. And last Thursday we screened a recording of the play to clients at the Lighthouse Cinema in Dublin City.

While it brought laughter and entertainment to the audience, deep within its humour, the play carried a profound message: life is a precious and fleeting gift.

Too often, it’s easy to fall into the rhythm of mere existence, navigating life’s routines without truly experiencing its richness. Days blend into weeks, and before we know it, years have passed. Oscar Wilde’s words resonate with undeniable truth — living, authentically and fully, is indeed a rare treasure.

We’re often preoccupied with our daily challenges, responsibilities, and aspirations, and we may forget to cherish the simple moments, the laughter, the unexpected encounters, and the limitless beauty that surrounds us.

Even as the writer, I was reminded by the play to savour life’s flavours, to embrace its adventures, and seize the opportunities it presents – even and especially in the challenging times.

Every day is an invitation to live and to thrive.

Every day we write the script of our life.

Every day, we have the opportunity to embrace and live each moment, fully. In this way we truly discover the richness of life.

Life is an incredible adventure waiting to be explored.

What small step can you take today to infuse more life into your existence?

Here’s to making every moment count.

Best,

Shane
