“There is no doubt that creativity is the most important human resource of all. Without creativity, there would be no progress, and we would be forever repeating the same patterns.”

“Creative thinking is not a talent, it is a skill that can be learnt. It empowers people by adding strength to their natural abilities which improves teamwork, productivity and where appropriate profits.”
— Edward de Bono (Inventor, consultant and originator of the term ‘lateral thinking)

I was chatting with a business owner I respect and admire last week when they made the comment that they didn’t think they were very creative.   And I think perhaps, a lot of people think the same thing.  Yet, I think this is often where ‘creativity’ gets confused with being artistic.

I am surrounded by some of the most creative people I know – because being truly creative to me, means the ability to imagine something you want to create and then make it happen.
That could be:

    •    Creating a business
    •    Achieving a business goal
    •    Overcoming a problem
    •    Achieving a health goal,
    •    Communicating in a new way to your team, your peers or the bank!
    •    Creating a life that means something to you

I believe we are more in need of creative thinking and doing than ever.  And maybe the starting point is believing that you truly are creative i.e. you have the ability to imagine what doesn’t exist, and can make it happen.

Food for thought.

ps – Just in case you’ve forgotten, the CREATE morning workshop is on Sat 10th May in Dublin.  Only a few places left.  Details here and it’s open to anyone.
