“There are things known and things unknown, and in between are the doors.”

– Jim Morrison & Ray Manzarek (legendary rock group ‘The Doors’)

I popped into a busy deli-shop last week in Dublin to get a some lunch.  A sign was placed on a door inside that said
“Toilets broken. Apologies for any inconvenience.”
For some reason I didn’t quite believe this, so I walked up to the counter and asked the person at the till if someone could open the door to the toilets.

He replied “They’re broken”, without barely giving me a look.  “But are they really?”, I countered.  He stopped doing what he was doing, looked at me, then looked around him to see if anyone was watching, leaned forward and said…”No. They are working”.
I smiled.  Then he said “If you go over to that guy, Carlos, and ask him to open the door
you’ll get in.”  And that’s exactly what I did.
Setting aside the fact that the management had obviously decided to restrict access to the toilets, I was laughing to myself as I walked back to my car that that experience could serve as a metaphor for life.  We all have doors around us that are closed.
Some are definitely locked, but some are really open.  Yet we can often assume they’re locked and often don’t try
to find out what’s ‘really’ going on… Yet if we just ask the guy at the till….. well, you get the picture.
So, what doors can you test this week?
