“The key to success is to keep growing in all areas of life
– mental, emotional, spiritual as well as physical.”
– Julius Erving
In today’s world, there’s a lot of hype and attention given to scaling a company. But not as much is given into ‘Scaling Yourself’…
In my experience, having worked with many companies who have scaled, the single best way to scale and grow a company is to grow the people FIRST.
Not last.
Not when you have time.
Not when things fall into place..
An organisation or team only grows to the ability of it’s people.
If you drill into that principle, you should come to the conclusion that the only way to grow your own life is to grow yourself FIRST.
That means prioritising your development above all else.
When you drill into that view you might come to realise that there are two main ways to develop yourself: 1. From the outside in and 2. From the inside out.
Outside in is learning new knowledge about a subject, topic or area. It results in cultivating the intellect.
Being inside out focused means focusing on getting better at what have been called ’soft skills’. It results in cultivating your own inner wisdom.
Things like:
- Self-awareness
- Emotional maturity
- Independent thinking
- Resilience
- Coachability
- Deep Listening
- Clarity
- State Management
- Creative Thinking
- Self-Management
There’s nothing ‘soft’ about these skills in my view because they require deep courage and and and inner strength to face, tackle and develop.
They are all about developing your inner character and are skills at the core of what’s needed for the world today.
If you’re into playing the long-game of true, sustainable and meaningful success prioritise always prioritise your own growth and development first.
As we open the world back up again, there has never been a better opportunity to prioritise investing in yourself FIRST.
A question to consider for this week:
Where am I investing in my growth and development this year? And is it outside in or inside out…?
