What lies behind us
And what lies before us
Are small matters compared
To what lies inside us.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is one of my favourite quotes.
The message contained within the words resonate at a deep level inside me.
I’m fortunate in that I have a career where I get reminded of the amazing potential inside human beings every single day.
I have seen people overcome incredible obstacles and create something amazing.
I have witnessed many defy logic and do the impossible.
I have been inspired by phenomenal resilience in the face of storms with very difficult circumstances.
It’s all too easy to get caught up mentally with our circumstance or with what is happening in the world around us and end up feeling sorry for ourselves or angry at everything and everyone.
You might have a partly flawed past (who doesn’t?) or maybe you’re really concerned about the present or the future. But for this week my suggested challenge is to really consider what is inside you – incredible depth of potential.
I have incredible faith in the human spirit – which is really the source of our ingenuity, creativity and resilience. That faith is based on real world experience. I know it to be true. It’s not just a quote.
If this resonates with you, please remind the people around you. It’s too easy to lose sight of it. Even the best will have moments when they forget.
And we all need to remember.
