“True life is lived
when tiny changes occur.”
― Leo Tolstoy
I was up early this morning and went for a walk around Wicklow, a harbour town on the east coast of Ireland.
It was cold and dark but the sound of something familiar but yet, unfamiliar, caught my attention and made me smile.
It was the sound of beer kegs being loaded onto a waiting Guinness truck, parked on the side of the street. My smile must have been evident as the two men doing the loading smiled back, I think almost in silent recognition at their own delight to be back doing their work.
It occurred to me in that moment, that those unique sounds haven’t been around over the last 2 years, as often as they used to be.
It seems that with the main restrictions being lifted from Saturday morning in Ireland, plenty of people had celebrated enthusiastically in pubs and bars across our small country over the weekend.
After so long at not being able to do so much that we took for granted, it’s slightly strange to realise that we can start thinking in a more expansive way about our lives.
And that’s something I feel we need to be deliberate about. Without realising it, our thinking often changes based on circumstances.
So it will take an extra level of diligence to stand guard at the entrance of our mind – not only to make sure the right thinking enters but also to expel some of the ‘old thinking’ that crept in over the last 2 years.
Now is a time to open up society (at least in Ireland).
But to do that we need to open up our minds, pro-actively.
Something to consider as you move into your week…
Best,
Shane
