“The best way to capture moments is to pay attention. This is how we cultivate mindfulness during holidays and in everyday life.”

Jon Kabat-Zinn

We had a bereavement in our family recently.

*TLJ’s Dad, Peter, passed after 83 years of good living and life,

This loss has been a stark reminder of how precious and fleeting life can be, and the importance of cherishing the time we have.

With the holiday season approaching, it’s a time most people look forward to. But I’ve observed a dangerous pattern in recent years:

  • People bringing very busy minds into their holidays and keeping them busy with their phones/other tech and other distractions.

Without realising it, this busy minded-ness is robbing them of their ability to squeeze the maximum out of their holidays – usually time with the people closest to them.

As we approach the holiday season, I invite you to reflect on how you are now and consider making changes BEFORE your holiday that will make your break even more impactful.

  • How can you integrate moments of rest and mental calm into your day, now? (This is a high performance question also!)
  • What steps can you take to ensure you’re truly able to enjoy your time with loved ones?
  • What would it take to NOT check in on work related stuff?

Being more in the now has become a cliche, but it’s a very valuable skill.

And any skill gets better with practice.

Where do you want to put your attention?

Best,

Shane
